NIDO Upholstered Furniture Collection by FeliFam: Comfort Takes Shape

FeliFam presents NIDO, its own upholstered furniture collection created in collaboration with designer Vladislav Tolochko. The concept brings together distinctive aesthetics, carefully considered comfort and a special sense of cosiness. At its heart is an exploration of form, where soft lines meet architectural definition and visual lightness. NIDO reflects our vision of contemporary upholstered furniture for children’s spaces: aesthetically pleasing, functional and comfortable.

NIDO Upholstered Furniture: A Balance of Style and Comfort

The NIDO collection brings together four main furniture pieces: a bed, an armchair, a chair and pouffes, each available in three design variations. The beds and armchairs feature separate designs for girls and boys, distinguished by their shapes and individual styling. Each piece serves its own functional purpose, while all the elements share a consistent design language and work harmoniously together. This makes it possible to create cohesive furniture arrangements tailored to the space and the overall concept of a child’s room.

NIDO: From Concept to Creation

The idea of creating our own furniture collection took shape over a period of around 18 to 24 months. Although bespoke solutions have always been at the heart of FeliFam’s work, we wanted to develop a permanent furniture range with a distinctive brand identity, its own character and a recognisable aesthetic. The aim was to create a collection that would stand independently of any particular interior design project, offering original design solutions for children’s spaces.

The concept centred on premium textiles, intricate curved lines and the sculptural quality of soft forms. It was essential to find a balance between architectural elegance, safety and comfort. Another important challenge was developing structures capable of bringing the intended geometry to life while preserving the distinctive character of each silhouette.

The result is the NIDO collection, where aesthetics are inseparable from construction and the needs of children. It reflects FeliFam’s ambition to push the boundaries of bespoke design and offer its own vision of contemporary upholstered furniture for children’s rooms.

Why NIDO? The Idea Behind the Name

The name NIDO means ‘nest’ in Italian. It reflects the central idea behind the collection: creating a special space for children that evokes warmth, cosiness and a sense of calm.

As the designer explains, it was important to choose a name with a deeper meaning, one that would immediately convey the concept of the collection and the feelings its furniture is intended to inspire.

The image of a nest came from childhood memories and the desire we all have for a little place of our own, somewhere to retreat, feel warm, comfortable and safe. This idea became the foundation of the name NIDO, which is intended to evoke those same warm childhood feelings.

NIDO: Balancing Form and Structure

One of the most challenging aspects of developing the NIDO collection was bringing together the expressive volumes of upholstered furniture and refined wooden accents in a harmonious way. Particular attention was given to the joint between the backrest and headrest of the armchairs, where it was essential to preserve the continuity of the silhouette while highlighting the distinctive construction.

We wanted to achieve a sense of visual lightness, with individual upholstered elements appearing to flow seamlessly into one another without compromising structural strength or ergonomics. To achieve this, we carefully refined the frame geometry, the radii of the curves and the proportions of every component. Upholstery precision was equally important, as the fabric needed to follow the intricate sculptural forms flawlessly.

The interplay between soft, rounded volumes and clean-lined wooden details has become one of the defining features of NIDO’s design. This contrast creates a cohesive visual language, bringing the different pieces together through a shared aesthetic while giving each its own distinctive character.

What Makes the NIDO Collection Unique?

What makes NIDO unique is, above all, its approach to furniture design, which places children at the centre, considering how they experience their surroundings, what makes them feel comfortable and how their aesthetic awareness develops. The collection stands out for its combination of complex engineering solutions and refined curved forms, which are exceptionally challenging to reproduce in mass production.

NIDO is created with an appreciation of every child’s individuality. At the same time, the collection continues FeliFam’s wider philosophy, reflecting the brand’s commitment to creating distinctive spaces where design, comfort and individual character come together to form a harmonious environment.

From the Collection Designer: On the Beauty of Our Surroundings

Adults have a great responsibility to help children understand what is good and what is not. The same applies to design.

From an early age, through the objects that surround them, we show children what good aesthetics look like: beautiful, harmonious objects and well-balanced proportions.

Because I live by one principle: what surrounds us is a reflection of who we are.

When we are surrounded by refined objects and harmoniously combined colours, we feel calmer within ourselves, as opposed to being surrounded by the opposite.
